Jimmy Anderson represents victims of aviation accidents and their families. He has repeatedly obtained substantial verdicts against major operators, manufacturers, and their insurance companies, taking high-profile and complex cases through trial and appeal. An FAA-licensed airplane and helicopter pilot himself, Jimmy teaches aviation law at a university in Washington, and is a go-to source for news media seeking legal analysis and commentary on aviation issues.

As a third-generation pilot, Jimmy has been around professional aviation his entire life. He originally attended an FAA Part-141 college and flight school and obtained a dual degree in flight technology and philosophy (both with honors). Through an internship with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) investigating aircraft accidents, Jimmy developed an interest in flight safety. Jimmy learned that much of aviation safety is not driven by FAA regulations, but instead, by holding unsafe operators and manufacturers accountable in the civil justice system. As a result, Jimmy attended law school rather than pursuing a career as an airline pilot.

Jimmy applied a pilot’s work ethic and attention to detail to his study of the law, and graduated from Seattle University School of Law with honors in 2008. Jimmy gained his initial trial skills and experience litigating numerous cases for insurance companies, before transitioning to a Pacific Northwest law firm handling exclusively aviation accidents. It was there that Jimmy had the opportunity to work with Nate Bingham, Tom Bingham, and Jeff Jones of Krutch Lindell as co-counsel on several high-profile wrongful death cases. He also collaborated with Matt Clarke (of another aviation accident firm) on a similar basis. Impressed with the trial expertise, professionalism, and diligence of these lawyers, Jimmy joined Krutch Lindell, with Matt Clarke following him shortly after.

At Krutch Lindell, Jimmy has continued his advocacy for aviation safety on both domestic and international cases. He endeavors to make sure that those who cause aviation accidents are held responsible, and he has worked hard to ensure that the new technology emerging in aviation is held to high standards of reliability.

Jimmy is frequently asked by the media for expert legal commentary on aviation issues, including piloting, maintenance, and design and manufacturing defects. He is a past chair of the King County Bar Association’s Aviation Section; is a professor of aviation law at Central Washington University; and regularly gives presentations on aviation law to pilots, flight instructors, attorneys, insurance professionals, and the general public.

A testament to the high level of respect he has earned among peers in the legal community, Jimmy has repeatedly been recognized on Super Lawyers’ annual roster of the top attorneys in Washington since 2015.

Jimmy is licensed to practice law in Washington and Oregon, but often handles cases in other states and Canadian provinces on a pro hac vice basis.

Praise for Jimmy Anderson

“I was worried that the technical details of my case would be hard for others to understand. Jimmy walked me through what happened in the crash in a way that made it easy to understand, and then showed me how we could explain it to others.” – Client

“Jimmy is a talented attorney and tough litigator. I’m glad we’re not on opposite sides of the aisle anymore!” – Opposing counsel
